Swim

1 lap of 1.9km

CHALLENGECANBERRA starts with 1 swim lap of 1.9 kilometers in the central basin of Lake Burley Griffin. A staggered start with 4-5 athletes every 5 secs for this year off the Commonwealth Place foreshore.  Spectators can view the whole swim and cheer their loved ones on. Athletes then make the 150m run to transition.

The updated CHALLENGECANBERRA bike course now features a thrilling section along Majura Parkway — a long, smooth stretch of road where athletes can hit speeds of up to 50km/h with ease. Aero bikes will be the weapon of choice, and personal bests are waiting to be broken.

But it’s more than just speed. As you power through the course, take in the sweeping views of Canberra’s natural beauty and iconic landmarks. It’s a perfect balance of performance and inspiration — a reminder of what makes triathlon such an incredible journey.

Bike Cut Off Time – 11.30am – athlete must be off the Majura Parkway.

If participants do not make it to these markers at these times they will be put in the sag wagon and taken to transition to complete the run leg. All athletes are encouraged to finish.

Run

2  laps of 10.5 km

The all-new CHALLENGECANBERRA run course promises a truly spectacular experience. This year’s two-lap route showcases some of Canberra’s most iconic locations. Runners will start at Commonwealth Place and cross Kings Avenue Bridge into the picturesque Commonwealth Park before continuing along the scenic central basin foreshore.

The course then loops under Kings Avenue Bridge toward the Boathouse Restaurant, before heading back across the bridge and through the National Gallery of Australia’s stunning Sculpture Garden. With five well-placed aid stations along the 10km course, athletes will have ample opportunities to stay hydrated.

Relatively flat and fast, this course is designed for speed, atmosphere, and scenery—offering an unforgettable race-day experience. The finish line awaits on the lawns of John Dunmore Lang Place, directly in front of Old Parliament House—one of the most iconic finish backdrops in Australian triathlon.

CHALLENGECANBERRA Sprint distance starts with 1 swim lap of a 750m swim in the central basin of Lake Burley Griffin. Sprint distance athletes also enjoy a rolling start. Spectators can view the whole swim and cheer their loved ones on. Athletes then make the 150m run to transition.

Sprint distance athletes will enjoy a fast, mostly flat one-lap course designed to deliver speed and confidence. This year’s updated route gives riders a taste of the Majura Parkway – just enough to experience the open road and fast surface without the full commitment of the Olympic or middle-distance courses.

With minimal elevation and smooth road surfaces, this course is perfect for beginners and speed-seekers alike. Riders will turn around before reaching the major climbs, making it an accessible yet exhilarating ride back to transition.

Expect fast times and a fun, flowing ride that showcases why CHALLENGECANBERRA is a must-do event for every level of triathlete.

Sprint distance athletes will enjoy a fast and mainly flat technical run course with some slight undulations. The run take athletes through the magnificent National Gallery of Australia’s Sculptures and through Commonwealth Place.

Bike

The Super Sprint bike course at CHALLENGECANBERRA takes athletes on a quick technical loop before they cross Kings Ave bridge, a short ride along the Park Way which is a fast and flat and followed by a short out and back along Moreshead Drive. Back over Kings Ave bridge and back towards transition. Nothing too hard about this course but it will test your technical skills with a few sweeping corners and turns.

The Super Sprint run course at CHALLENGECANBERRA is similar to the Sprint distance run course but only one super fast technical lap through the the surrounding Commonwealth Place and the National Gallery of Australia Sculptures. Athletes will definitely enjoy this run.
