We welcome back the Pro Open event to Challenge Canberra 2025. This years Pro Open races will again consist of two events with a total combined time to give us the overall winners for 2025. The races for the both our elite and junior elite athletes will be slightly different in 2025.

Pro Open Aquathlon (Swim/Run) – 500m / 2.5km Olympic – 1500m / 40km / 10km (non-drafting)
Junior Pro Open Aquathlon (Swim/Run) – 500m / 2.5km Super Sprint – 300m / 10km / 2.5km (draft legal)

Note: the elite and junior elite will be a combined race which will give our elite juniors the opportunity to race against some of the best elite athletes in Australia.

Challenge Canberra will feature a total prize purse of $20,000, distributed across the Challenge Canberra Pro Open and the Challenge Canberra Junior Pro Open.  As this event grows the prize money will grow across both events.

Both the male and female divisions of the Pro Open and Junior Pro Open will be handicapped based on 2024 male and female results. The first male or female over the line in the Pro Open Olympic Distance event will receive an additional $500, while the first male or female over the line of the Junior Pro Open Super Sprint Distance event will earn an additional $200.

Each year, the time difference between the female and male wave starts will be adjusted to create the closest possible race outcomes.

Proposed Wave Start Differences for 2025:

  • Pro Open Olympic Distance: Male wave starts 13:45 minutes after the female wave.
  • Junior Pro Open Super Sprint Distance: Male wave starts 3:57 minutes after the female wave.
